For a brand new building, our involvement often starts when the roof
structure is being built. The covering may already be decided by the
customer, architect and planning/conservation officers, but if not then
we can source a range of sympathetic samples. The roof frame is
generally built by a carpenter and we work with them to let them know
how it needs to be set out. This is defined by the roof covering, as
different materials require different batten gauges. Once this is ready
we go on site to felt and batten, and where necessary put in the
insulation. The roof covering is then laid, and the lead work is done.
The last items to go on are the ridges.
